Professor Tracie Morris
Tmorris4@emich.edu
602D Pray-Harrold

This class is a survey of four literary forms: Poetry, Fiction, Creative non-fiction and Playwriting. We will conduct close reading of the text, it's value in society and presentation in multiple media. We will also do some creative writing, but the focus on the class will be analysis of the work we read.

The requirements are consistent attendance and promptness (this is mandatory), active participation and a final 12 – 15 page paper. It is due the on the last day of class. No late papers will be accepted and no incompletes are offered for this class.

We will look at what makes certain forms of literature effective, what draws us in as readers and what themes we find consistently explored irrespective of genre.

We will look at "classic" literature and contemporary work. Please note some of the work we will consider will be of a more adult nature. The class may include additional assignments if the professor deems it to be helpful to course development.
